Pre-announcement of the 2025 Joint International Funding Call

Expected launch: September 2025

The Green ERA-Hub , in collaboration with the the Wheat Initiative., will open its 3rd Joint International Funding Call in September 2025. This call will support cutting-edge research projects that accelerate the shift from a fossil-based to a sustainable, bio-based economy.

Call Scope

Projects are expected to improve biomass production through innovative crop breeding for food and feed, or enhance non-edible biomass use for industrial purposes by researching and developing novel, innovative and sustainable biotechnological approaches.

🔹 Topic A – Plant breeding for improved resilience & health of crops, environment, and soil
🔹 Topic B – Biotechnological applications to improve the utilisation of biomass

Projects are expected to deliver innovative solutions that strengthen sustainable food and feed production, or enhance the non-edible biomass value chain for industrial purposes.

Who can apply?

  • Universities

  • Public research institutions

  • Private non-profits

  • Private companies

Applicants must follow national/regional rules.
Consortia must include at least three funding-seeking partners from three different countries.
Partners without funding may join as Associated Partners with a Letter of Financial Commitment.

Provisional Timeline

  • Call Announcement: September 2025

  • Pre-proposal submission deadline: November 2025

  • Full proposal submission deadline: March 2026

  • Funding decision & result notification: June 2026
